THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS

 

Happiness is an abstract concept that can mean so many things to so many people, yet it is truly something that we all seek.  As citizens we all have this right, regardless of our abilities.  I have spent over 30 years working as a Recreational Therapist in mental health, rehabilitation and long term care.  I have been actively helping others seek their “inalienable right” to happiness all this time!

Recreation and fun are frequently involved in setting the stage for happiness.  Recreational Therapy harnesses this desire and pursuit as a tool to achieve therapeutic goals in recovering from a disabling condition.    Recreational Therapists use recreation and leisure activities as interventions in a systematic process that addresses the assessed needs of the client.  Therapeutic Recreation recognizes the power of designing interventions that are meaningful to each individual in creating a satisfying life, regardless of one’s abilities.
